WHY YOU’VE BEEN PUTTING IT OFF

Living With a Missing Tooth Is Not the Compromise You Think It Is

Maybe you’ve been chewing on one side for years. Maybe you stopped smiling with your teeth in photos. Maybe you’ve been waiting for the “right time” — when it’s less expensive, when work slows down, when you feel braver about surgery.

Meanwhile, the bone where the tooth used to be is shrinking — slowly, every month, whether you can see it or not. Neighboring teeth are tilting into the gap. Your bite is shifting. The gum line is changing the shape of your face. And the longer you wait, the more complex (and expensive) the eventual fix becomes.

This isn’t a guilt trip — it’s the math of jawbone biology. Bone needs the stimulation of a tooth root to stay dense. A bridge sits on top of it; a denture rests over it; only an implant actually replaces the root and tells the bone to keep itself.

WHAT WE DO

A Real Dental Implants Specialist — Not a Three-Office Hand-Off

The traditional path looks like this: your general dentist refers you to an oral surgeon for the implant placement, who refers you back to your general dentist for the crown. Three offices, three sets of paperwork, three rounds of insurance verification, and often two separate “out-of-network” bills.

At Aster Smiles, the same dentist who plans your case also places the implant and designs the final crown. Dr. Huynh holds advanced surgical training in implant placement, oral surgery, and IV sedation — so single implants, multi-tooth bridges, and All-on-4 full-arch cases are handled in-house.

That continuity matters more than people realize. The dentist placing the implant knows exactly how the final crown needs to fit. The dentist designing the crown knows exactly where the implant is positioned. Outcomes are tighter, timelines are shorter, and you only ever sit in one chair.

HOW IT WORKS

What Is a Dental Implant, Exactly — and Which Type Do You Need?

A dental implant is a small titanium post (about the size of a wooden pencil tip) that’s placed into the jawbone where a tooth used to be. Over 3–6 months, it fuses with the bone in a process called osseointegration — becoming part of your skeleton, not something sitting on top of it. A custom crown is then attached, completing the tooth.

There are three main configurations a dental implants specialist will recommend depending on what you’re missing:

OPTION 1

Single-Tooth Implant

One implant + one crown. The standard solution for replacing a single missing or damaged tooth without involving the neighboring teeth.

Best for: a single missing tooth or a tooth too damaged to save with a crown.

OPTION 2

Implant-Supported Bridge

2–3 implants supporting a multi-tooth bridge. Replaces several adjacent missing teeth without grinding down healthy ones for support.

Best for: 2–4 missing teeth in a row.

OPTION 3

All-on-4 Full Arch

4 strategically placed implants supporting a full arch of teeth (upper, lower, or both). A permanent fixed solution — not a removable denture.

Best for: failing dentition, severe bone loss, or current denture wearers.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What Happens Before, During, and After Your Implant Procedure

STEP 1 · BEFORE

Consultation & 3D Planning

You’ll meet with Dr. Huynh for a focused exam, low-radiation 3D imaging, and a candid assessment of what’s possible. We confirm bone health, look for any infections to clear first, and review the full plan including timeline and pricing.

You leave knowing whether implants are right for you — or whether bone grafting needs to happen first.

STEP 2 · DURING

Implant Placement & Healing

The titanium implant is placed into the jawbone using digital surgical guidance — exact angle, depth, and position planned in advance. Most patients describe it as easier than they expected. IV sedation is available throughout.

Over the next 3–6 months, the implant fuses with your bone (osseointegration). You’ll wear a temporary in the meantime if it’s a visible tooth.

STEP 3 · AFTER

Final Crown & Long-Term Care

Once the implant is fully integrated, Dr. Huynh attaches your custom-shaded crown. The shape, color, and bite are dialed in until it feels indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Care is the same as a real tooth: brush, floss, regular checkups. With proper care, implants commonly last 20+ years and frequently a lifetime.

SAFETY · CREDENTIALS · PROTOCOLS

Why Trust Our Dental Implants Specialist for a Surgical Procedure

Implant placement is real surgery — and surgery rewards experience. “In-house implants” only matter if the dentist has the credentials to back it up. Here’s the credential stack behind every dental implants specialist case at Aster Smiles:

For patients who don’t have enough jaw bone for an implant, we perform the bone graft in-house with the same surgical credentials, so the entire implant pathway stays under one roof instead of routing through a separate oral surgeon.

Who Implants Are — and Aren’t — Right For

✓ A Good Candidate If You Have

One or more missing teeth · A failing tooth slated for extraction · Loose or uncomfortable dentures · Healthy gums and adequate jawbone (or willingness to do bone grafting first) · A commitment to the 3–6 month healing process

⚠ Not Always a Fit If You Have

Active gum disease (treatable first) · Uncontrolled diabetes · Active heavy smoking · Certain medications affecting bone healing · Insufficient bone and unwillingness to do grafting

Dr. Huynh will tell you honestly if implants aren’t right for you — or what needs to happen first.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Dental Implants Specialist FAQs

Most adults with healthy gums and adequate jawbone are candidates. The few situations where implants aren’t a fit (or need work first) include active gum disease, uncontrolled diabetes, current heavy smoking, and significant bone loss without willingness to do bone grafting first. We do a focused exam and 3D imaging at your consultation to give you a clear, honest answer — and a plan if there’s prep work needed first.

Most patients describe it as easier than they expected. Local anesthesia means you feel nothing during the actual placement. IV sedation is available for patients who want to be deeply relaxed throughout the procedure — many sleep through the entire visit. Post-op soreness is typically managed with ibuprofen and feels similar to a tooth extraction. Most people return to normal activity the next day.

The full process typically spans 3–6 months. The implant placement itself is a single visit (1–2 hours for a standard case). After that, the implant needs to fuse with your jawbone — a process called osseointegration — which takes 3–6 months depending on bone health and implant location. Once integration is complete, the final crown is attached in a separate, much shorter visit. Each case is different — Dr. Huynh will give you a clear timeline at your consultation.

A single-tooth implant + crown is one price tier. Multi-tooth implant bridges are higher. Full-arch All-on-4 is a different category entirely. Specific dollar amounts depend on whether bone grafting is needed, the type of crown material, and the implant brand. Most major PPO insurance plans cover at least the crown portion. Wellness Plan members save 25% on most treatments. Financing through CareCredit and Sunbit is available, including 0% APR for qualified applicants. Every case gets a clear, written estimate before any surgery.

You may still be a great candidate. Bone naturally shrinks where a tooth used to be, but bone grafting rebuilds the foundation needed for a secure implant. We perform bone grafting in-house, often during the same surgical visit as the implant placement. Dr. Huynh will tell you honestly at your consultation whether grafting is needed and what timeline that adds.

With proper care and regular dental checkups, dental implants commonly last 20+ years — and frequently a lifetime. The titanium post itself is biocompatible and integrated into your bone. The crown on top may eventually need replacement after 10–15+ years of normal wear, similar to how natural teeth can need crowns or fillings over time. Care is the same as a real tooth: brush, floss, regular checkups.

Not at Aster Smiles. Dr. Huynh holds advanced training in implant placement and oral surgery, so single implants, multi-tooth bridges, All-on-4 full-arch cases, and bone grafting are all handled in-house. The same dentist plans your case, places the implant, and designs the final crown — eliminating the referral chase, separate billing, and timeline delays of a traditional 2- or 3-office hand-off.
