Scheduling & Appointment FAQs

You can book online through our secure appointment form — it takes about 90 seconds — or call us at (832) 476-7676 during open hours. If you’re not sure which type of visit to book (new patient, cleaning, emergency, or consultation), choose the closest option or give us a call and we’ll get you to the right place.

Yes. Our online booking form is available 24/7, even outside office hours and on days we’re closed. We’ll confirm your requested time the next business morning and work with you if anything needs to shift.

Yes — we’re open every Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM. Saturday slots fill quickly with families and working professionals, so we recommend booking 1–2 weeks ahead if you have a preferred time.

Yes. We reserve daily openings for dental emergencies including severe pain, knocked-out teeth, broken fillings or crowns, swelling, and trauma. Call (832) 476-7676 as early in the day as you can — the sooner you call, the more likely we can see you the same day.

For routine cleanings and exams, we recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance to get your preferred day and time. Saturday mornings and late-afternoon Tuesday/Thursday slots fill the fastest.

Just call or text us at (832) 476-7676 at least 24 hours before your appointment. There’s no fee for rescheduling when you give us reasonable notice — we just ask that you let us know so another patient can use the slot.

New Patient Dental FAQs

Your first visit at Aster Smiles typically lasts 60–90 minutes. Dr. Huynh will sit down with you before any exam to understand your goals, concerns, and history. Then we’ll do a comprehensive exam, any needed X-rays, and an oral cancer screening. At the end, Dr. Huynh walks you through what he found — in plain language, with no pressure — and we’ll map out a care plan that respects your timeline and budget.

Bring a photo ID, your dental insurance card (if you have one), a list of any medications you take, and any notes about past dental experiences or concerns. If you’ve had dental work at another office recently, ask them to send us your records beforehand so Dr. Huynh has the full picture.

Yes — and you’re far from alone. Many of Dr. Huynh’s patients arrive after 5, 10, even 20 years away from dental care. You won’t hear a lecture. We go at your pace, focus on what matters most first, and build a plan that feels manageable. If anxiety is the reason for the gap, ask about our IV sedation and other comfort options.

Yes. After your exam, Dr. Huynh will explain what he found, prioritize any issues (urgent vs. can-wait), and give you a written treatment plan with cost estimates. You’re never pressured to book anything on the spot — take the plan home, think it over, ask questions, and decide what works for you.

Absolutely. Dr. Huynh believes honest prioritization is part of good dentistry. He’ll separate what’s truly urgent (active decay, infection, pain) from what can be monitored or phased over time. For uninsured patients, our Wellness Plan at $24/month includes exams and X-rays plus 20–50% off treatments — which often makes a big difference.

Yes. We welcome children alongside the whole family. Our Children’s Wellness Plan is $21/month and covers exams, X-rays, and fluoride treatments. Dr. Huynh takes extra time with young patients to make the visit feel friendly and not scary.

Dental Anxiety & Comfort FAQs

Yes — and treating anxious patients is a cornerstone of Dr. Huynh’s practice. He’s trained in IV sedation beyond standard DMD requirements, and he takes the time to understand what specifically makes you anxious (the drill sound, the numbing shot, feeling out of control, a bad past experience). From there, we match sedation and comfort tools to your actual fear — not a generic plan.

Aster Smiles offers three levels of sedation so you can pick what fits your anxiety level: Level 1 — Calming Support (breathing techniques, weighted blanket, earplugs — you stay fully awake); Level 2 — Laughing Gas (nitrous oxide — you feel relaxed and floaty, wears off in minutes); Level 3 — IV Sedation (you sleep through the entire procedure, administered by Dr. Huynh who holds advanced sedation certification).

Yes, when administered by a trained dentist. Dr. Huynh holds IV sedation certification and monitors your vitals — heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation — continuously throughout the procedure. IV sedation uses the same medications used in oral surgery centers, and you’ll need a trusted adult to drive you home afterward.

You’ll be in a deeply relaxed, dream-like state — most patients have no memory of the procedure afterward. You can still breathe on your own and respond to simple prompts, but you won’t feel or remember the work being done. It’s different from general anesthesia (which puts you fully under).

Weighted blankets, noise-canceling earplugs, soft neck pillows, hand-signal communication (so you can pause anytime without needing to speak), and a personalized anxiety assessment at your first visit. After each appointment, we review what worked for you and what didn’t — so your next visit is even easier.

Yes. Let us know before your appointment. Dr. Huynh uses specific techniques — slower pacing, alternative impression methods, and sedation when appropriate — that work well for patients with strong gag reflexes.

Tell us what triggers the sensitivity (cold, heat, sweets, pressure) and Dr. Huynh will evaluate whether it’s caused by exposed roots, thin enamel, a cracked tooth, or something else. Treatment options range from desensitizing varnishes and specialized toothpaste to bonding, gum grafts, or crowns — depending on the cause.

Dental Services FAQs

Most patients benefit from a cleaning and exam every 6 months. If you have gum disease, a history of cavities, or certain medical conditions (diabetes, pregnancy, smoking history), Dr. Huynh may recommend every 3–4 months to stay ahead of problems.

Yes. Aster Smiles provides tooth-colored fillings, inlays, onlays, and crowns to restore teeth damaged by decay, cracks, or wear. If a tooth is beyond saving, Dr. Huynh will discuss extraction and replacement options like dental implants.

Yes. Dr. Huynh has advanced hands-on training in dental implant placement — meaning most patients can have their implant placed and restored in one office, without a specialist referral. If bone grafting is needed first, we offer that in-house too.

Yes. We handle most wisdom teeth extractions in-house, including impacted cases, with IV sedation available so you can sleep through the entire procedure.

Yes. We offer professional teeth whitening — both in-office and custom take-home trays. In-office whitening gives visible results in a single visit; take-home trays are gentler on sensitive teeth and let you whiten on your own schedule.

Yes. Bleeding gums are usually an early sign of gum disease (gingivitis or periodontitis) — and it’s reversible if caught early. Dr. Huynh will evaluate the severity with X-rays and gum measurements, then recommend scaling and root planing, more frequent cleanings, or other treatment as needed.

Call (832) 476-7676 and leave a detailed message — we check messages regularly and will call you back with guidance. For uncontrolled bleeding, facial swelling that affects breathing or vision, or trauma with a head injury, go to the ER or call 911 first. See our emergency care page for what to do before you reach us.

Dental Insurance & Payment FAQs

Aster Smiles accepts most major PPO dental insurance plans. If you’re unsure whether your plan is accepted, call us at (832) 476-7676 with your insurance info and we’ll verify your benefits — including deductible, annual max, and what’s covered — before your visit, at no cost to you.

Our Wellness Plan is designed for uninsured patients. Adult plans are $24/month and include all exams and X-rays, cleanings for just $30, 50% off IV sedation, and 20% off all other treatments. The Children’s Plan is $21/month and covers exams, X-rays, and fluoride treatments. No contracts. No waiting periods. No surprises.

Yes. For larger treatment plans, we work with CareCredit and other third-party financing options that offer 0% interest plans over 6–24 months (depending on approval). Ask our team and we’ll help you compare options.

Always. Dr. Huynh believes you deserve to see the full picture before any work begins. We give written estimates, explain what insurance is expected to cover, and what your out-of-pocket cost will be. No surprise bills.

Yes — most dental care qualifies as an eligible HSA/FSA expense. We accept HSA/FSA debit cards at checkout and can provide itemized receipts for reimbursement.
