WHY YOU’RE STILL DELAYING

Wisdom Teeth Pain Doesn't Stay Manageable. It Becomes a Decision Made Under Pressure.

Maybe your dentist mentioned them at your last cleaning — “keep an eye on those wisdom teeth.” Maybe they’re aching now and you’re hoping a few days of ibuprofen will buy you time. Maybe one already came in crooked and food keeps getting trapped behind it, and you’ve gotten used to the bad taste.

Here’s what tends to actually happen. Wisdom teeth that are partially erupted or impacted don’t get better on their own — they get worse on their own schedule. The gum tissue around them traps bacteria. Pressure builds. Then one weekend, usually a Saturday night, an infection flares hard enough that you can’t sleep. Now you’re searching emergency dentists at 11 PM, taking time off work for an unplanned procedure, and choosing whoever can see you first instead of who you actually want.

Wisdom teeth removal is significantly easier — physically, financially, and emotionally — when it’s planned, not panicked. The window between “my dentist mentioned it” and “I have no choice now” is where you have all the leverage. After that, the surgery is the same; only the urgency changes.

WHAT WE DO

Wisdom Teeth Removal Done by a Dentist With Surgical Training — Not Outsourced

The traditional path looks like this: your general dentist refers you to an oral surgeon across town for a consultation, then a separate surgery date, then back to your general dentist for follow-up. Two practices, two sets of paperwork, two insurance verifications, often two “out-of-network” charges to navigate.

Dr. Huynh holds advanced training in oral surgery and IV sedation, which means routine and impacted wisdom teeth are extracted in-office — including all four in a single visit when that’s the right plan. The same dentist who reviews your 3D imaging plans the surgery, performs the extraction, and sees you for post-op.

That continuity matters when something is uncomfortable. You’re not explaining your situation to a new front desk, a new dentist, a new dental assistant who’s never seen your chart. You’re going where you already are — for surgery that’s already planned, on a timeline you control.

DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED THEM OUT?

How to Tell If Wisdom Teeth Removal Is Actually Necessary

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. About 35% of adults are born without all four wisdom teeth, and a smaller percentage actually have enough room in the jaw for them to erupt cleanly and stay healthy. The honest answer for most people, though, is that there’s not enough room — which means the teeth come in tilted, sideways, or partially trapped in the gum.

Wisdom teeth removal is generally indicated when one or more of these signs are present:

Pain or Pressure

Persistent ache at the back of the mouth, especially when chewing or opening wide. Often signals impaction or pressure on neighboring teeth.

Recurring Infection

Pericoronitis — swollen, painful gum tissue around a partially erupted tooth, sometimes with pus or a bad taste. This will keep coming back until the tooth is removed.

Crowding or Shifting

Erupting wisdom teeth can put pressure on neighboring molars and undo years of orthodontic work. If you've had braces, this is the case where waiting costs the most.

Impacted (Stuck)

Tooth trapped under bone or gum, growing sideways or angled into the next tooth. Visible only on imaging — common reason for preventive removal in the late teens or early 20s.

Decay You Can't Reach

Wisdom teeth are notoriously hard to brush and floss. Cavities here often start invisibly and progress fast — by the time you feel them, the decay is usually deep.

Cyst or Bone Damage

A fluid-filled sac can form around a deeply impacted tooth, slowly damaging surrounding bone and roots. Visible only on imaging — and a clear reason for removal.

What if mine aren’t bothering me?

That’s a real question — and the answer depends on what 3D imaging shows. Some asymptomatic wisdom teeth can be safely monitored. Others are silently impacted, decaying, or starting to damage neighboring teeth, even without pain. We don’t recommend wisdom teeth removal unless imaging gives us a clear reason. If yours are healthy and stable, we’ll tell you — and we’ll keep watching them at your regular checkups.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

What You Get When You Choose Aster Smiles for Wisdom Teeth Removal

Dr. Huynh is certified to provide IV sedation in-office. Sleep through the entire procedure. Most patients have little to no memory of the surgery.

Low-radiation 3D imaging maps each tooth's exact position and proximity to nerves before any incision is made — minimizing surprises and protecting the inferior alveolar nerve.

Most consultations and surgeries scheduled within the same week. Same-day appointments for active pain or infection during business hours.

Transparent Pricing

Written estimate before surgery is scheduled. Most major PPO insurance accepted. Wellness Plan members save 25%. Financing through CareCredit and Sunbit available.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What Happens Before, During, and After Wisdom Teeth Removal

STEP 1 · BEFORE

Consultation & 3D Imaging

You’ll meet with Dr. Huynh for a focused exam and low-radiation 3D imaging. We’ll show you exactly what’s going on with each tooth — angle, root depth, proximity to nerves — and recommend whether removal is needed now, can wait, or isn’t necessary at all.

You’ll get a written estimate, sedation options explained, and pre-op instructions before you leave.

STEP 2 · DURING

The Extraction Itself

If you’ve chosen IV sedation, the IV is placed first — most patients say that’s the only part they remember. The extraction itself usually takes 30–60 minutes for all four teeth. Local anesthesia ensures you feel no pain even with lighter sedation.

You’ll wake gradually in the recovery area while we monitor you. Once you’re stable, your driver takes you home.

STEP 3 · AFTER

Recovery & Healing

Most people take 2–3 days off and feel substantially better by day 4. Swelling peaks at 48–72 hours, then drops fast. Soft foods, ice on the cheek for the first day, no straws for a week (to avoid dry socket).

We follow up by phone within 24–48 hours and see you in-office for a check-up around day 7–10.

SAFETY · CREDENTIALS · PROTOCOLS

Why Trust Aster Smiles for Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth removal is real surgery — not a routine extraction. The teeth sit close to major nerves and the floor of the sinus, especially the lower wisdom teeth. Experience and imaging are what protect you. Here’s the credential stack behind every wisdom teeth removal case at Aster Smiles:

Severe pain after day 3 (possible dry socket) · Fever or pus · Numbness that doesn’t improve · Heavy bleeding that won’t stop with pressure.

COST & FINANCING

How Much Does Wisdom Teeth Removal Cost in Cypress?

Cost depends on three things: how many teeth, how impacted they are, and which sedation level you choose. A simple single-tooth extraction is one tier. All four impacted with IV sedation is a different one. We give every patient a written estimate before surgery is scheduled.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Wisdom Teeth Removal FAQs

Most consultations are scheduled within the same week, sometimes within a day or two. If you’re in active pain or have signs of infection, we hold same-day emergency slots during business hours — call (832) 476-7676. Surgery is typically scheduled within 1–2 weeks of the consultation, sometimes the same week for urgent cases.

It depends entirely on what 3D imaging shows. Sometimes only one tooth is causing problems and the others can stay. Sometimes the painful one is just the first to show symptoms — and the other three are heading the same direction. Many patients choose to have all four removed in one visit (one recovery, one round of sedation, one set of time off work) when imaging shows they’ll all need to come out eventually. We’ll show you exactly what we see and recommend what’s actually right for your case — not what’s most profitable for us.

The surgery itself isn’t painful — local anesthesia ensures you feel nothing during the procedure, and IV sedation means most patients sleep through it with no memory of it afterward. The recovery has some soreness, especially at the 48–72 hour swelling peak, but most people manage with prescribed pain medication and ibuprofen. By day 4, most patients feel substantially better. By day 7, most are back to normal activity.

Yes. Dr. Huynh is trained and certified to provide IV sedation in-office (TSBDE Level 3 Moderate Parenteral Sedation) — a credential most general dentists don’t hold. That means you don’t need a referral to a separate oral surgeon for the comfort level you actually want. You’ll need a responsible adult to drive you home; otherwise, IV sedation makes the whole procedure feel like a 10-minute nap.

Cost depends on three things: how many teeth, how impacted they are, and which sedation level you choose. Most major dental insurance covers wisdom teeth removal — especially when there’s a documented medical reason (impaction, infection, decay). Wellness Plan members save 25% on most treatments plus 50% on IV sedation. Financing through CareCredit and Sunbit is available, including 0% APR for qualified applicants. Every case gets a clear, written estimate before surgery is scheduled.

Most patients take 2–3 days off work or school. Swelling peaks at 48–72 hours, then drops fast. By day 4, most people feel substantially better. By day 7–10, most are fully back to normal. Plan for soft foods, ice on the cheek for the first day, no straws for a week (to avoid dry socket), and no smoking. We’ll send you home with detailed written aftercare instructions and check on you within 24–48 hours.

Most wisdom teeth removal happens between ages 17 and 25 — when the roots haven’t fully formed yet, making extraction simpler and recovery faster. Removal is sometimes done earlier if a 3D image shows clear crowding or impaction. We’ll do a focused exam and 3D imaging at the consultation to give you a candid recommendation. If your teen’s wisdom teeth are healthy and stable, we’ll keep watching — not push removal that isn’t needed.

No referral needed at Aster Smiles. Dr. Huynh holds advanced training in oral surgery and IV sedation, so wisdom teeth removal — including impacted and surgical cases — is handled in-house. The same dentist who reviews your imaging plans the surgery, performs the extraction, and handles your follow-up. No driving across town to a separate surgical center. No coordinating between two practices’ billing departments.
