If an implant consult mentioned a bone graft first, this page is the educational prep guide — not a surgical listing. The clinical service overview lives on dental bone grafting. Drs. Thanh Huynh and Stephen Choe. Call (832) 476-7676.
Why bone volume matters for an implant
An implant needs solid bone to anchor. After a tooth is removed, the socket can shrink in width and height within months. A socket-preservation graft placed at extraction is how many Cypress patients keep enough volume for a later implant. Ridge reconstruction after bone has already collapsed is a different, larger procedure and is often referred out.
What the consult actually covers
Expect a CBCT scan, a frank read on whether socket preservation, referral, or an alternate plan fits your scan, and a written plan before you commit. For the decision framework Dr. Huynh uses, also read Do You Need a Bone Graft Before a Dental Implant?.
Gum disease first?
If pockets or bleeding are still active, bone grafting is not the first step. Review scaling and root planing (SRP) and the questions on our deep cleaning guide before implant timing.
Comfort options
You stay in a monitored chair. Nitrous or IV sedation can be used for longer visits. Sedation by mouth is not offered here.
